Superyacht Specialists Bid for Charity
St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton swapped the high drama of premier league football for the glamour of the Superyacht Industry last weekend, playing host to the Superyacht Charity’s 5th annual ball.
With a champagne reception to welcome some of the industry’s leading yacht designers, suppliers, supporters together with their families and friends with one common aim. To raise as much money as possible for their chosen 2019 charities; Sail4Cancer, Turn to Starboard and Oceans of Hope.
Over 500 superyacht industry movers and shakers were welcomed by a champagne reception and cheered as Derek Munro, Chairman of the Superyacht Charity, outlined the charity’s ambitions for the coming year and plans to launch additional fundraising events in other yachting venues across the globe. Although the charity has chosen their 3 main causes for the year, Derek also reminded the crowd how they have supported individual causes and lesser known charitable organisations over the last 5 years.
This year’s chosen charities include Sail4Cancer who provide water-based respite days and holidays for families affected by cancer, Turn to Starboard who give Armed Forces personnel affected by military operations sail training as well as the Oceans of Hope programme which enables individuals living with multiple sclerosis (MS) to circumnavigate the globe.
With an extensive and impressive checklist of auction bids and raffle prizes, guests couldn’t help but get caught up in the excitement of the bidding frenzy, generously contributing to an awesome total of £71,000!!
The glittering night was topped off with the dancefloor rocking to the Superyacht Band!
Huge thanks to everyone for a fabulous night and for contributing to a magnificent total which will make a massive difference to individuals and their families affected by illness every day.
