The Most Expensive Yachts of 2024 – A Peek into Luxurious New Builds
The year 2024 witnessed the debut of some of the most opulent and technologically advanced yachts ever constructed. Among these, the motor yacht “Special One” stands out as a remarkable blend of luxury, performance, and innovation.
Special One: The Pinnacle of Sportfishing Yachts
Delivered by Royal Huisman in June 2024, the 52-meter (171-foot) “Special One” has earned the title of the world’s largest true sportfish yacht. Crafted for an owner with a deep passion for sportfishing, this vessel combines the thrill of sportfishing with the comfort and sophistication of a superyacht. Designed by Vripack Yacht Design Studio, “Special One” features a distinctive long bow, high bulwarks, and a towering profile that accommodates six decks. The high tower not only offers outstanding views for specialised fishing but also serves as a superb platform for guests to observe the action below.
Performance-wise, “Special One” is engineered to impress, achieving speeds exceeding 30 knots during sea trials. This is made possible by her twin V20 MAN 4500kW engines and an Alustar® aluminum hull that ensures strength and resilience while facilitating smooth and efficient passages. In line with sustainable practices, the yacht utilises hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as fuel, reducing CO2 emissions by over 90%.

While “Special One” has garnered significant attention, other remarkable yachts launched in 2024 include:
- Koru: Owned by Jeff Bezos, this 417-foot schooner, valued at approximately $500 million, features three massive masts and luxurious amenities such as outdoor decks, pools, a cinema, and a hot tub. Koru is supported by a 246-foot vessel named Abeona, which includes a helipad for Bezos’ partner, Lauren Sanchez. This vessel can hold 40 crew members and launched from Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, and completed her first round of sea trials in February.

The Evolving Landscape of Superyacht Luxury
The superyacht industry continues to push the boundaries of luxury and innovation. In 2024, a notable trend was the incorporation of large-scale inflatables, such as floating pickleball courts and entire inflatable beach clubs costing up to €250,000. These additions expand usable space at sea level, enhancing the yachting experience for owners and guests alike.
In conclusion, 2024 has been a landmark year for the superyacht industry, with “Special One” exemplifying the fusion of luxury, performance, and sustainability. As technology and design continue to evolve, the future promises even more extraordinary vessels gracing the world’s oceans.
