Advanced Fire Fighting is a 4 day course necessary for deck and engineering officers wishing to apply for a Certificate of Competency, and for any crew designated to control fire fighting operations on board a ship. Particular attention is paid to organisation, tactics and effective command. The course involves 2 days theoretical work and 2 days practical on the fire ground including the following: Fire fighting procedures both at sea and in port Extinguisher use and maintenance Breathing Apparatus Communication techniques & tactical command Stability issues regarding fires on board ships Casualty response and handling Ventilation, fuel and electrical systems IMDG Code Fire investigation and report writing Candidates must be fit and able to complete all aspects of training. The course is physically demanding and candidates are required to complete a medical declaration prior to course commencement.
Useful Information
In order to be eligible for this course, students must hold ONE of the following: -STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting certificate -MNTB Stage One Fire Fighting course -Royal Navy Fire Fighting course
