The aim of this two week support level training course is to prepare the trainee with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to fulfill the role as an Able Seafarer Deck (STCW Regulation II/5) on board ship.

Entry requirements
Candidates must be following the UTT MCA approved Deck Cadet training programme or a similar programme approved by the MCA and must satisfy the following:
be at least 18 years of age;
have successfully completed the basic training required by STCW Code A-VI/1-4;
hold a steering certificate (as evidenced in the candidate’s Training Record Book – Deck);
have completed 6 months sea service in the deck department as a Deck Cadet.
hold an MCA approved Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than fast rescue boats) certificate (CPSC&RB).
hold an ENG 1 seafarer medical certificate or MCA accepted equivalent.
have completed the following Diploma in Maritime Operations courses offered by the university:
MARD1015 Seamanship: Efficient Deck Hand – PART I
MARD2020 Seamanship: Efficient Deck Hand – PART II (or similar courses approved by the MCA)
