Efficient Deckhand (EDH)

This is an MCA approved practical training course required by all deck ratings wishing to progress to the rank of Able Bodied Seaman. It's also a mandatory requirement for the issue of an Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency.

Course Structure

General Practical Seamanship Duties.

•Handling and Splicing of Wire and Rope.

•Anchoring and Mooring.

•Cargo Hatches.

•Rigging Gangways, Pilot Ladders and a Bosun's Chair.

•Enclosed Spaces.

•Understanding of Code of Safe Working Practice

Useful Information

Minimum entry requirements

•Six months seagoing service in a deck capacity; AND

•Valid medical certificate; AND

•Four basic STCW 95 certificates (firefighting, first aid, PST,PSSR); AND

•Watchkeeping / steering certificate.
