The aim of the course is to train Bridge Watchkeeping Officers and other interested personnel in the safe and efficient use of ECDIS. To ensure the proper use and operation of ECDIS through understanding its capabilities and limitations. It meets the requirements laid down in Regulation II/1 and II/2 of the STCW 2010 Manila Amendment (Revised 2012 Edition) and table A1-II/1 and A-II/2 of the STCW Code:
Proper training for navigators is vital if the safety benefits of ECDIS are to be truly realised. Knowing how to make proper use of electronic chart systems is fundamental to safe navigation. Delivered by very experienced instructors the course meets the guidance of IMO Model Course 1.27. The Operational Use of ECDIS for generic ECDIS training is also approved by Transas for Type Specific training on the Navi Sailor 5000. Full Mission Bridge Simulator.
Successful completion of this course will result in the issue of certification for Generic ECDIS training (to IMO 1.27). The essential legal and theoretical background to the use and carriage of ECDIS is covered is sufficient detail to allow the student to use ECDIS correctly and safely. Combining the essential theory of ECDIS and practical exercises on our dedicated bridge simulation suite, candidates will experience a variety of passage scenarios with opportunities to test their new skills with their existing bridge watch keeping knowledge.
