This course aims to provide seafarers with the basic knowledge of immediate first aid action to be taken upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency on board ship.
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded an Elementary First Aid certificate, accredited by the MCA (Maritime Coastguard Agency).
STCW Elementary First Aid Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate an understanding of the types of medical accidents or emergencies which may occur
How to raise the alarm
Identify of the probable cause and extent of injuries of a casualty
Demonstrate the correct priority and sequence of actions to preserve the life of the casualty
Entry Requirements
There are no formal educational requirements to undertake this course, although all participants must be 16 years or over. Some aspects of this course are physically demanding. We therefore require all students to complete a physical declaration form.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed by examination and practical demonstration.
