STCW ELEMENTARY FIRST AID (EFA) AIMS:

This STCW First Aid course is designed for those professional yachtsmen, super yacht crew and seafarers who are required to comply with the STCW 95 code of practice and the STCW 2010 amendments. In the super yacht industry this certificate is required by all crew. In the smaller yacht and the workboat industry skippers operating up to 60 miles from a safe haven can operate with this certificate. Skippers operating further offshore require the more advanced 4-day MCA / STCW Medical First Aid and Medical care courses which are aimed at seafarers venturing offshore.

Essentially, if you were at sea and a member of your crew became seriously ill, somebody on board should have sufficient skills to perform adequate first aid until professional help can be reached.

This is one of the course that makes up the STCW Basic Safety Week.
