The one day STCW Elementary First Aid course teaches you the basic principles of first aid at sea. Learn to identify life threatening conditions, perform CPR, recognise hypothermia and be better prepared to help a casualty in an onboard emergency. This is part of the mandatory STCW Basic Safety Training course, which also includes Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, Personal Survival Techniques and Proficiency in Security Awareness.

First priorities of First Aid / Drills and training / Calling for help / Assessment & immediate action / ABC / CPR / Handling casualties including helicopter rescue / Bandaging / Allergies / Amputation / Anaphylactic shock / Control of bleeding / Awareness of CAT drugs / Contents of a first aid kit / Head injuries / Shock / Spinal injuries / Fractures / Heart attacks / Angina / Stroke / Burns / Choking / Asthma attacks, diabetic emergencies and epilepsy / Sea sickness / Hypothermia / Electric shock Assessment is by practical demonstrations and a short written test followed by a course debrief.
