The course is to provide Seafarers with the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to carry out designated fire duties in accordance with international regulations. Candidates will develop a basic knowledge to take appropriate action for the safety of personnel, of the ship and to use appliances correctly.
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting certificate, accredited by the MCA (Maritime Coastguard Agency).
STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF) Learning Objectives:
This course is divided into three sections:
Day 1 Theory Session
Fire theory
Fire prevention
Equipment available on board vessels
Shipboard fire-fighting, drills and procedures
Day 2 and 3 Practical
Extinguishers
Breathing apparatus competency
Actions within a smoke and heat environment
Search and Rescue techniques
Extinguish small and extensive fires using various mediums
Entry Requirements
There are no formal educational requirements to undertake this course, although all participants must be 16 years or over. Some aspects of this course are physically demanding. We therefore require all students to complete a physical declaration form.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed by examination and practical demonstration.
