This MCA approved training programme is intended to meet the requirements set out in Section A-VI/1 of the STCW code and elements 121.1 and 121.2 of Unit 121 of the Marine vessel S/NVQs.
The course is designed for training and competence in basic knowledge of the causes of fire, and prevention and risk minimisation, and in the actions to be taken in the event of a fire or similar emergency aboard ship. The course is structured with the emphasis on practical exercises designed to instil competence, and theoretical input on basic fire- fighting skills and shipboard fire-fighting techniques. Delegates will be constantly assessed throughout the programme by qualified assessors.
Course Structure
Delegates will undertake theoretical and practical training to gain knowledge and skills in the following areas.
Fire chemistry and ignition sources
Personal protective equipment
Maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving fires aboard ship
Fight and extinguish fires using fire fighting apparatus and appliances provided on board
Act as a member of a fire party, including the use of self contained breathing apparatus
Shipboard fire fighting organisation
Fire/smoke detection and alarm systems
