Full Description:
Personnel on board a ship must be able to deal with incidents of fire while a ship is at sea. All mariners are trained in fire fighting and fire prevention techniques. Students at NMCI are exposed to live fire scenarios in the Fire Training Unit (FTU) where they apply their training and use fire fighting equipment to control the fire.
The fire fighting and prevention course includes:
- Introduction
- Brief on statistics
- Theory of fire
- Classes of fire
- Various Fire equipment
- Organisation and emergency procedures
- BA board and tally boards
- Ba lecture
- Ba confidence
- SAR in FTU
- Fire fighting practical from hose running , extinguishers to team fire fighting live fires.
- Team building.
- Damage repair and stability awareness lecture
- Dry run
- Foam SAR
- Damage repair exercise.
- Student assessment
- Theory exam
Items to bring:
When joining the course please bring the following items with you:
National photographic identification e.g. Passport or Driver's Licence, wash gear, towel, t-shirt, soft shoes, €1coin for safety locker, extra set of clothes.
PLEASE NOTE: Students must be in possession of a valid Medical Certificate / ENG 11. All students will be asked to fill out a medical questionnaire before the course commences.
N.B.-On the commencement day of the course, please be in the Reception area of the NMCI by 8.30am.
