This course is the mandatory prescribed minimum requirement for basic fire safety training for all seafarers.
All persons taking up a career in the Merchant Navy employed or engaged on a seagoing ship, should receive approved training in Basic Fire Prevention and Firefighting enabling them be competent when discovering a fire on-board, to take immediate action and respond to emergencies on board a vessel. The overall aim is to provide seafarers with the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to carry out designated fire duties in accordance with international regulations.
