GMDSS General Operators Certificate (GOC)

This course is intended for candidates for a GMDSS General Operators Certificate (GOC) in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended (STCW Convention), meeting the standard of competence specified in section A-IV/2 of the STCW Code, and satisfying the provisions of the Radio Regulations of the International Telecommunication Union (ref. IT U RR Art. 47).

This means it is suitable for personnel for service on a vessel which is required to have a radio installation by SOLAS, operating in sea areas A1, A2, A3 and A4, and who may have primary responsibility for radio communications during distress, urgency, safety and routine incidents.

This course is based on IMO Model Course 1.25 – General Operators Certificate for GMDSS, 2015 Edition. It covers the training recommendations in annex 3 to the IMO Assembly resolution A.703(17) – Recommendation on Training of Radio Operators related to the General Operator’s Certificate (GOC)

Course Structure

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:?

The objective is to provide trainees with guidance and information to gain knowledge, understanding and proficiency required to achieve the objectives of the learning outcomes to demonstrate the standard of competence in GMDSS radio communications as required in table A-IV/2 of the STCW Code.?
