The Basic Health and Safety course aims to provide new entrants to the commercial fishing industry the knowledge and skills required to work safely on board a commercial fishing vessel.
This includes an understanding of the language used in the industry, individual roles and responsibilities, the dangers of the job and which skills are required to operate safely on board.
This course is a mandatory requirement before working on any commercial fishing vessel.
Course Structure
The course covers basic health and safety issues and safety practices in a dangerous working environment.
Topics also include safety equipment/clothing and guidelines on accident prevention. Understanding orders and on board communications.
Useful Information
Candidates must be over 16.
The course consists of lectures, films and demonstrations.
