Course description This course is run over 5 days course with an assessment on the last day. It is of interest to students who want to have a wider appreciation of basic marine diesel mechanics and electrics, with an understanding of the Chief Engineer’s responsibilities. It is the first step for anyone wanting to pursue an engineering career for those with no formal marine engineering qualifications, or for those boat owners or skippers who wish to deepen their engineering skills. Course content Compression ignition engines, general principles, the cycle of operation and construction of engines, Fuel systems, the role of air in the combustion process, cooling and lubricating systems. Engine electrical systems, Power transmission and Hull fittings. Pre-course experience / requirements None.
