The MCA Approved Engine Course 1 (AEC1) develops your basic understanding from the RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance course to a more advanced level. This newly updated course with content featuring increased practical elements, provides the practical basic hands on training and theoretical knowledge of diesel engines to enable you to work on board Small Vessels as engineer/dual deck engineer within the yacht, workboat, fishing, tugs sectors of the maritime industry. Accommodation: • Food and accommodation are available onsite at UKSA. The residential price for this course is £1,150.

MCA Approved Engine Certificate (AEC1) Course Syllabus: • General principles of compression ignition engines • Two- and four-stroke operation cycles and construction details • Fuel system • The role of air in the combustion process • Cooling systems • Lubrication technology • Engine electrical systems • Power transmission units • Hull fittings • Safe working practices and pollution legislation • LPG cylinder installations and CO risks • Fixed Firefighting installations • Future technologies

Pre-requisite experience: • Minimum age 18 years old • If you have no previous engineering experience we would advise that you attend an RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance course before completing this course. Examination and assessment: • MCA Approved Engine Certificate 1 (AEC1).
