EnquireThis course aims to give trainees the essential knowledge and training to skipper a yacht less than 200GT and limited up to 150 Nm from safe haven.
Course Structure
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- To reach the minimum standards of competence as set by the Authority.?
- Competent to skipper a vessel of up to 200GT from a distance not exceeding 150Nm from nearest safe haven.
- Take Command of a yacht and crew;
- Conduct a safe passage plan and maintain a proper navigational watch;
- Navigate safely from a port to a safe haven not exceeding 150 Nm using all navigational aids
- onboard;
- Interpret meteorological reports and transmissions;
- Have a thorough knowledge of the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea;
- Respond to emergencies onboard;
- Be familiar with the requirements of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea;
- Have a thorough knowledge of the relevant Maltese Regulations;
- Have a basic knowledge of the mechanical and electrical systems onboard;
- Take the necessary precautions to prevent marine pollution;
- Have a good knowledge in seamanship and general knowledge of yachts;
- Manoeuvre, berth and anchor the vessel in different sea conditions.

Useful Information
ENROLMENT STANDARDS:
- Be at least 18 years of age;
- Have a valid medical fitness certificate including eye-sight test (IMO/ILO);
- Have a valid VHF-SRC or valid GMDSS ROC/GOC certificate;
- A valid Basic Safety Training certificate as per Regulation VI/1 of the STCW convention, as amended;
- Have documentary evidence of 2500 Nm logged approved seagoing service, 100 hours of which must be carried out at night. All seagoing service must be relevant to the position applied for;
- Have an officially recognized license to skipper a vessel for at least 2 years.

ASSESSMENT:
100% Attendance + Written, Practical & Oral Exam
CERTIFICATION:
Course Certificate Completion which will allow the participants to submit an application to obtain the Transport Malta Certificate of Competence.
