This course is aimed at those working on
Coded vessels including fishing vessels, workboats, wind farm supply vessels, local passenger ferries, vessels for seismic surveys, emergency response and rescue (standby) vessels and oceanographic research vessels where electronic navigation equipment has been fitted.
Candidates serving in ships of a limited size requiring familiarisation or updating/refresher training in the use of radar and other electronic navigation systems.
Candidates who have not previously undertaken approved training in radar/electronic navigational systems in accordance with MGN 121 (part 13) of the MCA Training & Certification Guidance
Candidates for Boatmaster Licence
Candidates holding a fishing vessel CoC wishing to serve as Officers (other than Master)
It is also envisaged that this course will be suitable for those candidates undertaking the proposed Certificate of Competency for Master Workboat less than 500 GT
Course Structure
The course will follow the syllabus set out by the MCA/ MNTB for the Small Ships Navigation & Radar element of the Navigation Aids and Equipment Simulator Training document.
The aim of the course is to equip you with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to keep a safe navigational watch and to use radar, electronic charts, automatic plotting aids and other electronic equipment to maintain the safety of navigation for small vessels.
