RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Prep & Exam
Sunshine Sailing Australia now offers professional Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Yachtmaster training.
The scheme is accredited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and is emulated throughout the world. The certificates of competence are required by commercial yacht skippers on sailing and motor vessels 200 gross tons and as entry to Mega-yacht qualifications. Additionally, many recreational sailors take RYA Yachtmaster exams as a measure of their competence.
This course is for the advanced skipper who has the practical ability and the technical knowledge up to Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shorebased standard.
The course concentrates on the techniques and skills required to skipper a yacht on passages involving complex decision making, passage planning, navigation, and pilotage. A passage of longer duration, with particular emphasis placed on watch keeping, boat and people management techniques will be undertaken to demonstrate how to manage any event on such a passage.
In addition, you will improve
• Your close quarter’s boat handling skills under power and sail for mooring, anchoring or berthing.
• Preparation of the yacht for heavy weather sailing.
• Navigation in restricted visibility.
• Applied knowledge of the collision regulations, buoyage systems
• Emergency procedures and responses.
By the end of this course you should have gained an appreciation of the requirements and levels of a Yachtmaster and an expectation of the assessment and requirements. The instructor will brief you on an individual basis and give you a forward plan to get you through your Yachtmaster exam. Our goal is to help you get there so if there are any gaps in your knowledge then we will recommend what further learning maybe needed before you attend an exam.
