The purpose of this training is to give you the basic, essential knowledge and experience of personal survival principles and techniques to maximise your chances of survival in the event of an emergency.
The course consists of lectures, films and demonstrations, including a 2 hour practical wet drill in the Diving Pool.
Please note this course requires 100% attendance and practical pool participation. Missing any part of the course will result in failing the course and having to rebook and pay for another course. Please be advised that the practical elements include Safely jumping from a height into the water – Righting an inverted life raft while wearing a life jacket – Swimming while wearing a life jacket – Keeping afloat • Boarding a liferaft from ship and water while wearing a life jacket – Bringing aboard an injured person - Group survival exercise.
The course begins at 9.00am and ends at approximately 5.15pm.
On completion of the course you will receive the Personal Survival Techniques STCW’95 A-VI/1-1 certificate.The course will include
Types of emergency situations such as collision, fire, sinking
Types of life-saving appliances normally carried on ships
Equipment in survival craft
Location of personal life-saving appliances
Principles concerning survival.
Your practical instruction will include – Donning a life jacket – Donning and use an immersion suit – Safely jumping from a height into the water – Righting an inverted life raft while wearing a life jacket – Swimming while wearing a life jacket – Keeping afloat • Boarding a liferaft from ship and water while wearing a life jacket – Taking initial actions on boarding a liferaft to enhance chance of survival – Streaming a drogue or sea anchor – Bringing aboard an injured person -Group survival exercise.
