Proficiency as Ship Security Officer (SSO) (A-VI/5)

When the ISPS Code was introduced in 2004, most ships were required to have a Designated Security Officer, with the shipping company requiring to have a Company Security Officer. The training requirements for the Ship’s Security Officer have been included in the STCW as amended and require that the SSO maintains an effective security system on board.
