This course is designed to give those undertaking designated security duties on board a ship the essential education and training which meets the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements set out in the STCW Manila amendments 2010 Code and supporting chapter XI-2 of the annex of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974 and the ISPS Code. This course meets the new requirements regarding security training and supersedes the Proficiency in Security Awareness These regulations came into force 1 January 2014 yet many crew members are still not compliant and therefore render the vessel open to being detained by port state control. Training must be undertaken by all seafarers and security personnel who have designated duties under the Ships Security Plan (SSP). Gangway watches, stowaway searches, baggage searches, etc..
