Course Introduction

An essential online maritime training course, the STCW Superyacht Designated Security Duties provides those undertaking Designated Security Duties onboard luxury superyachts, motor yachts, & mega yachts with the essential education and training meeting the Knowledge, Understanding, and Proficiency (KUP) requirements outlined by the MNTB, the 2010 Manila Amendments, the requirements of Section A-VI/6, paragraphs 6 to 8 of the STCW Convention and Code, the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, and Table A-VI/6-2.

About the Course

The STCW Superyacht Designated Security Duties is a mandatory training prerequisite under STCW ISPS for members of a yacht’s crew or staff who report to the Ship Security Officer and have been assigned specific security responsibilities onboard the yacht. The course provides learners with the requisite knowledge to meet mandated instruction requirements under STCW, the MNTB KUPs, IMO Model Course 3.26, and the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) guidelines.

Awarding Body

The Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Course has received approval from the UK DfT Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) and is internationally acknowledged and accepted. It incorporates the 2010 Manila Amendments and conforms to the specifications outlined in Section A-VI/6, paragraphs 6 to 8 of the STCW Convention and Code, along with Table A-VI/6-2. It is advised that you confirm with your vessel, crewing agency, or company that the administration of the superyacht you will be on accepts MCA certification. The MCA is whitelisted by the IMO and internationally accepted under the Standards for Training, Certification & Watchkeeping (STCW).

Course Duration

The acceptable course duration for the online STCW Superyacht Designated Security Duties Course is 6.5 to 8 hours. The variance in time is designed to accommodate all learners, no matter their reading speed. However, the minimum time requirement must be met along with passing the official assessments to finish the course. This is a mandatory stipulation for taking this MCA Approved course.
