About the course
This course is designed for seafarers who are designated to provide medical first aid on board ship in accordance with STCW 95 A-V1/4 (1-3). The course will provide Seafarers who are designated to provide medical care on board ship essential education and training to meet the knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUP) requirements.
What you will learn
The aim of the course is to provide seafarers the essential knowledge and training in Medical Care onboard a Ship, particularly focusing on:
The ability to assess and provide care to an ill or injured person on board.
Understanding how to participate in the co-ordinated provision of medical care
Having competence in carrying out basic medical procedures.
Using Radio Medical Advice for the management of ill or injured people on board.
Familiarisation with the equipment and medication available as per the M1768 Ships Medical Stores list.
Students will be observed throughout the 5 day course and will be assessed with a written exam upon completion of training.
This course contains physical demonstration exercises such as leaning over casualties. Students should be physically fit to participate.
Prerequisites
You must hold a Proficiency in Medical First Aid On Board certificate or a Proficiency in Medical Care On Board certificate, or its update.
You must be aged 16 years or over.
Proof of prerequisites are required for inspection at course commencement.
