Medical First Aid for seafarers to meet standards in Table VI/4-1

Course Structure

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

- To reach the minimum standards of competence as set by IMO.?

- Competent to participate effectively in coordinated schemes for medical assistance on ships at sea.

- To provide immediate first aid to the sick or injured with a satisfactory standard while they remain on board.?

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES:

- Immediate Action

- First-aid Kit

- Body Structure and Function

- Toxicological Hazards on Board Ship

- Examination of a Patient

- Spinal Injuries

- Burns, Scalds and Effects of Heat and Cold

- Fractures, Dislocations and Muscular Injuries

- Medical Care of Rescued Persons, including Distress, Hypothermia and Cold Exposure

- Radio Medical Advice

- Pharmacology

- Sterilization

- Cardiac Arrest, Drowning and Asphyxia

- Psychological/Psychiatric Problems

Useful Information

ENROLMENT STANDARDS:

- Have successfully completed training in Elementary First Aid on board ship or a similar standard in elementary first aid.

- Must be at least 17 years of age.

PRICE:

Minimum 6 participants / Max 6 participants per class

€750/participant

DURATION:

30 hours

ACCREDITATION BY:

Transport Malta – STCW Merchant Shipping Directorate

ASSESSMENT:

100% Attendance

CERTIFICATION:

Course Completion Certificate which will enable the participant to submit an application to obtain a Certificate of Proficiency from Transport Malta.
