This course will take your theory knowledge to the standard required for the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams, concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology skills.
The RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory course is an advanced course that builds on the knowledge gained on the Day Skipper shore based course. It is aimed at those on the water who are looking to undertake more complex passages offshore or at night.
Course Structure
It is an intensive course covering advanced navigation techniques including – course shaping and position fixing, tidal knowledge including secondary port calculations, , electronic position finding equipment, navigation in restricted visibility, good seamanship, safety and boat stability. The International Regulations for Prevention of Collision at Sea are dealt with in detail including shapes, lights and sounds. Meteorology is taken to the next level and includes the interpretation of forecasts and the plotting of weather systems.
