RYA Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Theory will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages. Often just called Yachtmaster Shorebased this course builds on the Day Skipper course, allowing some time for revision before moving on to advanced navigation techniques and seamanship skills.
For both sail and power, this course will take your theoretical knowledge to the standard required for both the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams.
As the course progresses you’ll cover topics including; course shaping and plotting, tidal knowledge (including secondary port calculations), passage planning and passage making, weather predictions and collision regulations
You’ll need about 45 hours to complete the Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Theory Course plus up to five hours for the final assessment papers.
