The course 5 days if a weeks course or 7 days if split over three weekends. Each day runs from 9am to approximately 5pm.
To develop a comprehensive understanding of navigation, metrology and many other areas building on previous capability.Course content
The course is aimed at experienced boaters moving towards either their practical Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster Offshore examinations. It works equally well for Advanced powerboaters keen to develop their knowledge on to the next level.
Whilst at first sight the syllabus appears very similar to Day Skipper Shorebased the depth to which subjects are covered is very different.
The syllabus covers:
Position
The magnetic compass
Tides
Tidal streams
Buoyage
Lights
Pilotage
GPS & Chartplotters
Echo Sounders
Logs (speed and distance measuring)
Deck log
Meteorology
Rules of the road
Safety at Sea
Navigation in restricted visibility
Passage planning
Marine environment
At the end of the course there is an exam which covers all of the above areas. Success in the exam leads to the award of your course certificate
