A one and a half day course to help you prevent and solve both diesel and petrol engine problems. This course has been especially adapted to include petrol so as to meet the needs of river users.
Mechanical failure is the main cause of rescue call outs to cruisers. Basic maintenance and engine care will help ensure that you are not part of this statistic.
The most common problem areas are the fuel system and raw water pump failure, all easy to maintain and easily fixed, even at sea.
This course teaches you how the engine works, how to keep it healthy by using basic checks and maintenance procedures and how to get it started again in the event of a breakdown. Most engine problems can be avoided by taking simple precautions and you don't need detailed mechanical knowledge. Courses will be run at a maximum ratio of 1:12.
The course is recommended by the MCA.
The Course Includes:
All course materials including a comprehensive course pack and handbook and a certificate to take away. It is also recommended that you acquire the RYA Diesel Handbook. A copy will be available in the club's library for your viewing. Morning and afternoon tea will be available; you should bring a packed lunch on day one.
Itinerary: Saturday 09.30 until approximately 17.30 and Sunday 10.00 until 14.00
