RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship

This course can be completed at sea or in the comfort of your own home. After gaining this RYA shorebased certificate you can venture out at sea where practical aspects are concerned.

The Royal Yachting Association is one of the most highly respected boating organisations in the world and the Essential Navigation & Seamanship course is recognised worldwide. It serves as an excellent introduction to safety awareness and navigational skills which are aimed at those new to boating and yachting and who wish to aspire to be a skipper seeking to further their skills and become better sailors.

The main topics that are covered in the RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship syllabus include how to read and make use of charts and publications, Safety, Rules of the Road, Pilotage and Anchoring, to name a few of the subjects. You will also learn about visual and electronic navigational techniques whilst additionally learning how to plan a passage for a journey. Other topics include making the most of weather forecasts and how to understand the terminology, and how to use the buoyage system to recognize and avoid danger. As with all of our main courses, a full RYA certificate is awarded at the end following successful completion and the final examination is carried out at home or at sea.

This beginners course is the ideal introduction to all those who have a desire to navigate and be safe on the sea. The syllabus includes Charts, Buoyage, Basic Navigation, Safety, Anchoring, Tides, Rules of the Road, Weather, Pilotage, Electronic Navigation, and Passage Planning. The course is CD based with a facility to print down any section. It is greatly enhanced by over 100 animations.
