Many people feel they have no need for a basic 1st aid skills teaching course, and true a lot of the time a common sense approach can often cope with minor problems.
Unfortunately although a generally safe sport, boating is not without its hazards or risks, especially to the untrained or inexperienced.
This one day RYA course will cover all the general 1st aid subjects but from a boating point of view.
It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat whether inland, inshore or bigger passages.
Course Structure
The topics covered include:-
• The recovery position.
• CPR, including the drowning protocol.
• Cold shock and hypothermia from immersion and/or exposure.
• Seasickness and dehydration.
• Medical assistance or advice by VHF.
• Helicopter rescue.
Useful Information
This course is acceptable for Coastal skipper and yachtmaster practical exam candidates, RYA practical instructors and skippers of small commercial vessels up to Cat 2.
