The RYA Powerboat Intermediate Course is aimed at those skippers that have completed Powerboat level 2 and now looking for that bit more out of boating with the ability to safely make longer passages by day or night. The Powerboat Intermediate Course will introduce you to a higher level of navigation and boating skills.
Course Structure
RYA Powerboat Intermediate Theory;
A knowledge of:
Navigation, True & magnetic bearings, Bearing & distance, Chart symbols, Tidal diamonds & Tidal streams, use of pilot books, Position lines, use of marine locks.
Understanding of:
Latitude & Longitude, The principles of GPS, Sources of forecast information and the Interpretation of forecasts, Tidal heights at secondary ports.
Can;
Use a plotting instrument and can plot a course to steer ( CTS ), use of a tidal curve, work out tidal heights for standard ports, Buoyage, Rules of the road (IRPCS), Pilotage,
Mayday Call on VHF sets.
RYA Powerboat Intermediate Practical:
Boat Preparation, Boat handling, Pilotage, Passage making, man overboard.
The minimum age limit for the course is:
Age 16

Individual: £300 per head
One to one tuition: £440 per head
2 students: £270 per head
3 students or more: £200 per head
1st Sea School boat hire:
£180 per day (extra fuel) divided by number of students
You may do the RYA Powerboat Intermediate Course in your own boat (if suitable for night work):
