RYA Intermediate Powerboat

This course covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques

During the two days you also cover more advanced boat handling in different conditions. It is recommended for anyone considering moving on to the Advanced course providing them with knowledge and an understanding of navigation to Day Skipper level, visiting another port by day and understanding of local bye laws and pilotage into those ports. Whilst it is not obligitory students will ideally hold a VHF/SRC operators certificate and an acceptable first aid certificate which includes the treatment of hypothermia, cold shock and drowning.

If the intermediate course is being undertaken in a 'school boat', it is likely that Ultimate 3, the 6.5 m Redbay rib will be used on day one and the larger Shearwater Venture on day two to give students the opportunity of experiencing the different handling of outboard/inboard engines and larger boats including the ability to berth them in busy marina environments.
