RYA Level 2 (dinghy)

This RYA Basic Skills Course is for those that have completed the Start Dinghy Sailing course, or those with some sailing experience who wish to advance their skills. This course moves on from the level 1 by teaching more advanced techniques in a variety of craft. There is a natural movement towards a skillful and considered application of the skills and theory learnt on the Start Dinghy Sailing course, as well as an introduction to a few further "Basic Skills", whilst developing a greater understanding and implementation of the all-important five essentials - the key to good boat handling.

Here you will gain more experience in crewboat sailing, with time spent as helm and crew as you consolidate the basic skills of the Five Essentials for sailing - balance, trim, centreboard, sail setting and course made good; you will also be introduced to more advanced boat handling skills such as man overboard recovery and coming alongside; this course focuses on getting the best performance from your boat in a variety of conditions.
