For many of us the chance to go out and try a boat starts with a trip on a friends boat.
The RYA Powerboat Courses give you the opportunity to gain the experience and knowledge to be safe afloat. Be it in your own boat or one of our school boats.
This will cover you in most European ports (always best to check). You may wish to use the European Inland Waterways. You will need to have your ICC endorsed with the GEVNI (a small written test).
Course Structure
Launching & recovery, Boat handling, Securing to a buoy, Anchoring, Leaving & coming alongside, Man overboard.
Knowledge of:
Types of craft, Engines and Drives, Siting of fuel tanks & lines, batteries, Wiring, Fire extinggushers. Engine checks & Maintenance. Use of GPS, Application of Local bylaws, Sources of weather information.
Understanding of:
Awareness of other water users, Communication with other craft hand & sound signals, Emergency action, Towing / being towed, Fire precautions, Ropework.
Knowledge of:
Charts, Buoyage systems, Tides & tidal streams, Steering & hand compasses.
Age limits are:
Level 1 age 8
Level 2 age 12
You may, should you have the skills required, take a direct assessment (one day course).
This is an examination of your skills and not an instructional course.

When placing a booking:
2 Days Classroom / Practical
Individual booking: £290.00 per head
One-to-one tuition: £400.00
Two students: £260.00 per head
Three students or more: £240.00 per head
Courses will be run on a minimum of 2 students unless booked in for 1-2-1 tution
This includes school boat hire and fuel + courses material if required
Own boat tuition £200.00 per day + course material + travel if required
