RYA Powerboat Level 2

The Powerboat level 2 course is designed to teach boat handling and seamanship skills. The course takes two days to complete and is open to experienced boaters and complete novices alike. It’s a hands on course with the emphasis on as much boat handling time as possible. The theory is conducted in as easier form as possible and has no written test to take. Fun and a relaxed atmosphere is the order of the day.

A brief outline of the course includes the following:

•Prepare boat, launch and recover

•Securing to a buoy

•Anchoring

•Leaving and coming alongside pontoon and other vessels

•High speed manoeuvres, fast turns and runs

•Slow speed manoeuvres in the marina, 3 point turn in a confined space, springs

•The International Rules For The Prevention Of Collision At Sea

•Buoyage

•Man overboard and recovery

•Charts, tides, weather.

•Introduction to VHF/DSC radio
