RYA Powerboat Level 2

This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

Course Structure

The course is conducted in the Matakana River and Kawau Bay area. Candidates will be taught boat handling skills, high speed manoeuvres and man overboard recovery. Theoretical knowledge of collision regulations, hull shapes, trim and tilt is also covered. Maritime New Zealand has recently accepted the RYA National Power Boat Certificate Level 2 training/qualifications under a number of successful Part 35 applications – providing marine organisations with a viable alternative to Local Launch Operator for their staff.

Useful Information

Lifejackets are provided by Mahurangi Technical Institute. Students should bring waterproof clothing to wear on the water. A change of clothes should be brought. Shower facilities are available at Mahurangi Technical Institute.
