RYA Powerboat Level 2

This two day course is designed to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. The minimum age is 12 years. Participants 16 years and under are issued with and endorsed certificate and are always under the instructors supervision whilst on the course. The course syllabus includes the following:

Onshore teaching

• Types of craft – different hull forms

• Engine & drives

• Routine engine maintenance

• Weather

• Fire precautions and fire fighting

Practical

• Loads – effects on handling & performance

• Handling characteristics

• Handling a boat at planing speed

• Mooring

• Anchoring

• Leaving & coming along side

• Man over board
