The RYA Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR) course provides professionals with the knowledge they need to undertake this duty of care to crew, passengers and other seagoers. The course is now compulsory for anyone applying for their first commercial endorsement, and from the 1 June 2012 it has been be a pre-requisite for anyone revalidating their existing commercial endorsement.

Course Structure

The course is split into four sections:

The Commercial Enviroment - showing how you fit into the professional maritime world, and the regulations concerning aspects of operation within the marine environment

People - explaining the importance of correct manning, keeping skills up to date and the safe management of commercial vessels

Vessel - teaching about the compulsory carriage and maintenance of safety equipment, and how to create an implement risk control and operating procedures

Purpose - making sure the vessel is suitable and legal for the work, obligations in protecting the environment, appropriate planning and situational awareness

This will be delivered on-line via interactive modules. At the end of these four training modules you will be able to complete two practice assessments, before attempting the on-line exams. Useful, but not essential is the book RYA Commercial Regulations for Small Vessels

On successful completion of the assessment you will be able to download and print your certificate.
