Gaining Commercial Endorsement

Everyone who applies for a commercial endorsement on their RYA/MCA Certificate of Competence must complete this course.

It explains the legal responsibilities and considerations that working afloat entails.

You have a duty to protect crew, passengers and other sailors, and if you don\'t follow the legal requirements expected of you, you can and will be held responsible.

The course is supplied by RYA Interactive through Hamilton Sailing - it\'s taken online and is fully compatible with PC, Mac and iPad (iOS 6.0 or higher), allowing you to learn wherever and whenever you like.

You\'ll be guided through the course in step by step modules, with directions to the sources and reference materials which you\'ll need to be familiar with as a professional, and example scenarios will help you apply your new-found knowledge to real-life situations.

The course is designed to help you find the answers your need, with less emphasis on simply committing complicated legal details to memory. At the end of the course, you\'ll complete two online exams to assess your knowledge.

What Will PPR do for Me?

Once you’ve passed the course, you’ll be able to download your PPR certificate, which can then be submitted to the RYA with your commercial endorsement application. You will need to take a condensed version of the test whenever you’re renewing your commercial endorsement, to make sure your skills are up to date.

A Commercial endorsement will open the door for a variety of nautical careers; from delivery skipper to sailing instructor, charter yacht crew member to harbour master and several others.

When the payment is completed, after you have e mailed us . We will then create an account for you on the RYA Interactive website, add the PPR Course to your area and send you a follow-up email with a link and login details to access the site and course.

This process will usually be completed the same day but if you call or email in the evening or at a weekend it could take until the end of the following working day.
