RYA Start Yachting

The course provides a short introduction to Sail Cruising. During the weekend we will aim to visit many of the Solent’s anchorages and marinas and, if weather allows, maybe a little beyond. By the end of the course you will have experienced living on-board, steering the yacht, sailing handling, ropework and be aware of safety on board.

Course Structure

•The yacht - stowing of gear, safety in the galley, engine, water systems and sea toilets.

•Safety at sea - flares, man overboard drill, life jackets and safety lines, gas and fire precautions and on deck safety.

•Basic seamanship - boat handling, both under sail and power, sail handling, mooring techniques and rope handling.

•Basic rules of the road and basic Meteorology
