The RYA/MCA Short Range Training course / exam and certificate is the qualification wanted by International Captains on Yachts. Crew need to be able to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) Equipment on Commercial vessels fitted with a SRC radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels. All new VHF sets are either fitted, or can be interfaced, with DSC allowing calls to specific vessels.??Almost all crew will need to use the vhf radios, on the Yacht, tenders, support vessels and PWCs. This is a must have for Superyacht crew. The course is split into: pre course reading, followed by a one day practical course and separate exam by a RYA appointed examiner. The Examiner cannot be your trainer.??A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. Unnecessary transmissions could block out a Mayday distress call. This course will teach you the basics of operating and understanding a VHF radio on board a yacht. If you own a marine radio hand held or fixed set, you are required by law to hold an operator’s license – learn the procedures for operation and gain the qualification on this one day course. You will need to do at least 3 hours course reading which is moderated prior to the course.
