The GMDSS course is for those who wish to obtain a Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Short Range Certificate.
The GDMS Short Range Certificate (SRC) has replaced the VHF operators licence, and is a legal requirement for professional mariners and recreational sailors alike. This radio operator's licence is required to operate VHF radio (SRC1) VHF DSC (SRC2) equipment. These radio regulations apply to all vessels and marine leisure craft.
Aims
The GMDSS course is designed to teach students practical DSC alerting and marine radio procedures and techniques used in Distress, Urgency, Safety and Routine situations.
