As of 1st January 2017, it will be mandatory for all persons working on ships to provide documentary proof of having undertaken certain STCW courses within the previous five years, including the Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF) training.
For those persons who have already completed the full STCW FPFF previously, the Updating Training course may be used to fulfil the above requirements in lieu of repeating the full course again, subject to the entry pre-requisites below.
This course follows an MCA approved programme of studies, designed to refresh your knowledge of fire prevention and fire fighting techniques that can be applied to minimise the risk of fire, reduce the extent of damage to the vessel and mitigate the risk to human life.
STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting Updating Training Learning Objectives:
The learner must be able to maintain the required standard of competence in fire prevention and fire fighting.
Minimise risk of fire on board
Refresh skills in procedure, personal safety requirements and re-familiarise in ship board equipment.
Refresh skills to fight and extinguish fires.
Entry Requirements
To undertake the Updating Training course you must have already completed the full STCW FPFF previously.
There is no requirement to submit a self-declaration form for this course, as the elements of training permitted to be carried out on board would not significantly reduce the time of the shore based programme.
Some aspects of this course are physically demanding. Therefore we require all students to complete a physical declaration form.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed by examination and practical demonstration.
