The aim of this course is to refresh the seafarers’ skills according to STCW A-VI/1, paragraph 3, table A-VI/1-1 and A-VI/1-2, in the subjects of Sea Survival and Basic Fire Fighting. As amended in 2010.
CONTENT
The STCW Basic Safety Refresher Training of 2 modules which include both theory and practical sessions
Minimize the risk of fire and maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving fire
Fight and extinguish fires
Survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment
The course follows the guideline of Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) and Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA)
OBJECTIVES
Knowledge, understanding and proficiency of:
Type of emergency situations
Types of life saving appliances
Equipment in a survival craft
Location of personal life-saving equipment
Principles concerning survival
Shipboard firefighting organisation
Location of firefighting appliances and emergency escape routes
The element of fire and explosion
Types and sources of ignition
Flammable materials, fire hazards and spread of fire
The need of constant vigilance
Actions to be taken on board ship
Fire and smoke detection
Classification of fire and applicable extinguishing agents
Firefighting equipment and its location on board
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Course participants must hold a STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate according to STCW A-VI/1-1, 1-3, 1-4 and a Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting certificate According to STCW A-VI/1-2.
Or a valid Basic Safety Refresher certificate according to STCW A-VI/1, paragraph 3, table A-VI/1-1 and A-VI/1-2
