Updated STCW 95 (STCW 2010)

If you are working as a seafarer onboard a ship, or are returning to sea and completed your STCW Basic Safety Training Course more than five years ago, then the STCW Refresher Course is for you. If you hold Personal Survival Techniques (PST) and Fire Fighting (FP&FF) qualifications, then as of 1st January 2017, you must have evidence of having completed an STCW updated training course within the last five years. The new STCW Refresher Course was introduced as part of the 2010 STCW Manila amendments to the STCW convention.These changes came about because it was recognised that Seafarers do not have the opportunity to practice tackling real fires or launch life rafts as part of monthly drills. Therefore, updated training of these practical skills was needed.

Flying Fish is recognised by the MCA to deliver the STCW 2010 Basic Safety Training course. The course complies with Section A-VI/1 of the STCW code.

Course Structure

STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (2.5 days)

Refresh your knowledge on the different types of firefighting equipment found onboard a Superyacht, including BA gear, and the fundamentals of casualty recovery in a smoke-filled compartment. As part of this training, you will complete a live-fire exercise and use various types of fire extinguishers.

STCW Personal Survival Techniques (1 Day)

On this part of the course, you’ll get the chance to go back to the pool and get into a life raft. We’ll update you with any protocol changes, techniques, and equipment since your last Sea Survival Course.
