PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
Worldwide, the WSET® Diploma is considered the leading qualification and is the flagship of the WSET®. It is structured so as to prepare students to assume senior management positions in the wine and spirits industry. The WSET® Diploma curriculum does not just develop the \'Product\' knowledge of students at a very high levels, but also allows them to gain skills and capabilities, such as in researching for and writing reports and presentations, something they will need in their subsequent career development. This educational programme is taught mainly by experts of the world market. Many of them are MWs (Master of Wine) and they all certainly possess in-depth knowledge of the subject matter related to wine and spirits at Diploma level.
The WSET® Diploma is an essential step towards obtaining the Master of Wine (MW) degree.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMME AND ASSESSMENT CRITERIA BY UNITS
This curriculum is divided into six compulsory units, successful completion of which is required for the award of the diploma. Both courses and exams are conducted exclusively in English.
Section I - Unit 1, The World Market of Alcoholic Beverages:
Candidates are examined for Unit 1 through a one-hour written examination (Case Study) and one research project (Course Work Assignment) of 2,500-3,000 words, the subject matter being selected by the WSET Awards.
Section II - Unit 2, Wine Production
Candidates are examined for Unit 2 with a written 100-Question Multiple Choice exam
Section III - Unit 3, Wines of the World:
Candidates are examined for Unit 3 through a written Blind Wine-tasting exam of 12 wines) and a three-hour written exam consisting of 5 Open Answer Questions on subjects selected by the WSET Awards.
Section IV - Unit 4, Distillates of the World: Candidates are examined for Unit 4 through a written Blind Tasting Examination of 3 spirits and a written exam on theory (Open Answer Question) on subjects selected by WSET Awards.
Section V - Unit 5, Sparkling Wines of the World: Candidates are examined for Unit 5 through a written Blind Wine-tasting Examination of 3 wines and a written test theory (Open Answer Question) subjects chosen by WSET Awards.
Section VI - Unit 6, Fortified Wines of the World: Candidates considered for Topic 6 through a written Blind Wine-tasting Examination of three wines and a written test theory (Open Answer Question) on subjects selected by WSET Awards.
