Summary

Job Id: 1554745

Position: Captain

Yacht: 50m  MY

Location: Med

Flag: Cayman Island

Type: Private Use

Salary: Competitive, to be discussed during interview

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Captain to take charge of a 50-meter motor yacht currently in the final stages of construction. This role involves overseeing the completion of the build and managing the yacht through its first operational phases, including the initial sea trials, delivery, and preparation for the upcoming Mediterranean season. The vessel is under full management, ensuring a high level of support from shore-based operations.

The owner, based in the Middle East, intends to primarily use the yacht privately for cruising in the Mediterranean. There may be future plans for voyages in the Red Sea, but this remains to be confirmed. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading successful yacht builds or significant refit projects and be comfortable navigating both the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern waters. Language required: Italian

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the Final Stages of Construction: Coordinate with the shipyard, management company, and owner to ensure the yacht's timely and successful completion according to specifications and standards.

Sea Trials and Delivery: Supervise all sea trials, ensuring that the yacht is fully operational and safe for the owner’s use. Manage delivery from the shipyard to the home port, likely in the Mediterranean.

Crew Recruitment and Leadership: Assemble and lead a professional crew. Ensure all crew members are well-trained, meet regulatory requirements, and maintain the highest standards of service.

Liaison with Management Company: Work closely with the yacht’s management company to ensure seamless communication regarding operations, maintenance, compliance, and budgeting.

Owner Relations: Provide top-level service to the owner and guests, adapting to their preferences and ensuring all trips are executed flawlessly.

Operational Readiness: Prepare the yacht for the Mediterranean season, ensuring all systems, safety equipment, and amenities are in top working condition. Establish clear operational procedures for cruising, docking, and guest services.

Potential Red Sea Cruising: If requested, plan and lead future itineraries in the Red Sea, requiring a deep understanding of navigation, cultural sensitivities, and local regulations in this region.

Requirements:

Previous Experience: Minimum 5 years as Captain on yachts of similar size or larger, with specific experience managing new builds or major refit projects.

Qualifications:

Valid STCW and ENG1 certificates

Master 500 GT (or higher) license

Cayman Island endorsement or ability to obtain it

Mediterranean Experience: Strong familiarity with Mediterranean cruising, ports, and marinas.

Middle East Knowledge: Previous experience in Middle Eastern waters is a plus, or at least a willingness to become familiar with the region's maritime regulations and customs.

Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead a crew, communicate effectively with yacht management, and manage the yacht’s operational needs.

Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of yacht systems, maintenance schedules, and safety procedures.

Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to travel between the Mediterranean and Middle East, and potentially to the Red Sea, as the owner’s plans evolve.

Additional Information:

The yacht is privately owned and flagged under the Cayman Islands. The successful candidate will enjoy a supportive working environment with a professional management company overseeing the yacht’s day-to-day operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting project from its completion through to its first active season in the Mediterranean, with potential future exploration in the Red Sea.

Application Process: Interested candidates are invited to submit their CVs along with a detailed cover letter outlining their relevant experience. Salary is competitive and will be discussed during the interview process.

This is an exciting role for a highly skilled Captain who is comfortable with both the operational and technical challenges of overseeing a new build and ready to deliver exceptional experiences for the owner in some of the most beautiful cruising regions in the world.
