We are a 39-meter expedition sailing yacht (gulet) on a mission to discover the last remaining marine biodiversity hotspots around the globe and document them through marine research and storytelling. Currently embarking on a 12-month exploration of the Western Indian Ocean, the vessel operates in remote and challenging environments, fostering collaboration among a dedicated team of crew, scientists, and filmmakers. This is not a standard private yachting role—it is an opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary team in support of meaningful marine conservation and storytelling projects.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
- Command and oversee all aspects of the 39-meter vessel’s operations, ensuring the safety and well-being of the crew and passengers.
- Lead and manage a small professional crew, including an engineer, deckhand, and cook, while facilitating seamless collaboration with rotating scientists and film crew.
- Foster a professional and inclusive working environment in a high-pressure, around-the-clock operational setting.
Operational Management
- Plan and execute detailed sailing itineraries, ensuring safe navigation through remote and challenging waters of the Western Indian Ocean.
- Coordinate logistics, including provisioning, customs clearance, and shore-side support for research and filming activities.
- Oversee maintenance and upkeep of the 39-meter vessel, including the rig, sails, and onboard systems, ensuring peak operational readiness.
- Liaise with local authorities, port officials, and stakeholders in the region.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with international maritime regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards.
- Conduct regular safety drills and enforce rigorous safety protocols for all crew and guests.
Collaboration with Scientists & Film Crew
- Facilitate onboard marine research and filming activities, adapting schedules and itineraries to support mission objectives.
- Act as a central point of coordination between the crew, scientists, and filmmakers to ensure smooth operations.
- Be willing and passionate about engaging in the mission
Community Engagement
- Represent our mission, engaging with local communities, researchers, and organizations as needed.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s license for vessels of comparable size and tonnage (minimum Yachtmaster Ocean or equivalent).
- Significant experience as Captain of similar-sized sailing vessels or larger, with expertise in offshore sailing and transoceanic crossings.
- Strong professional references, including endorsements of transoceanic crossing capabilities.
- Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in French is advantageous.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to manage diverse teams and adapt to dynamic situations.
- Proven ability to operate in remote and resource-limited environments.
Desired Skills & Attributes
- Passion for marine conservation, exploration, and adventure.
- Technical knowledge of 39-meter sailing yacht systems, including rigging, navigation, and onboard technology.
- Problem-solving mindset, particularly in high-pressure situations.
- Experience managing budgets, inventories, and schedules for expedition-style voyages.
- Knowledge of marine research or documentary filmmaking is not required.
- Experience working in remote locations with limited access to resources and services.
- Flexibility and adaptability in planning and operations.
Additional Information
- The nature of the expedition requires flexibility and a willingness to work irregular hours.
- The Captain will have a private cabin onboard.
